Happy Mouth Jointed Pelham Bit
Happy Mouth Jointed Pelham BitE. Jeffries holds the world patent for these, apple scented, rough, non-toxic bits which were designed to maximise acceptance by the horse. The Happy Mouth bit range is made from super polished high quality stainless steel. The mouth of these bits is flexible but reinforced with stainless steel twist wire. How to correctly adjust the height of your new bit. It is best to do most of the adjustment before putting the bridle on the horse so, put the bit onto the bridle then hold it up to the side of the horse's face. Then put the top of the headpiece level with the top of the horse's head (poll) and the mouthpiece of the bit level with the corner of the mouth. Next adjust the bridle to fit. The cheekpieces should be adjusted, so that the bit lies in the correct position in the horse's mouth, i.e. leaving a little wrinkle at each corner of the mouth. Do not fit the bit to high, so that the horse appears to be grinning. Do not fit the bit too low, so that the bit hits the horse's teeth.

The result of pressure on the curb groove, is a pivoting action, causing the head to tilt into the conventional 'on the bit' postition. Double reins should be used, so that the curb action is exerted only when required. One rein via the use of roundings. Pelham bits are good for strong horses.
