Numerous items can be included in an equine first aid box. Some of the contents will reflect the individual
needs of your own horse or pony. Listed below is a check-list of items which may prove to be
useful.
Bandages eg Crepe, Vetrap,Treatplast, etc.
Dressings eg Melinin,
paraffin gauze, etc.
Gamgee
Cotton wool
Poultices eg Kaolin or Animal Lintex. Alternatively, a
hot bran mash can be used very effectively!
Wound powder and/or antibiotic cream
Disposable gloves
Disinfectant
Fly repellant
A small plastic bowl or container For warm water
Thermometer - Take care if using a glass thermometer!
Scissors
Tape
Salt
A clean sample pot. Useful for collecting urine or faecal samples
