Product Code: BI570Loose ring bits give a more subtle form of communication between horse and rider than fixed cheek bits, like eggbutt or full cheek bits.
This popular loose ring French Link bit with thin mouth, is available in a large range of sizes from 11.5cm to 15cm make your selection from the pull down menu. Remember in a double bridle, the bradoon should be 1/4'' to 1/2'' bigger than the Weymouth bit.
Sizing Loose Ring Bits - there should be a 1/4" gap each side of the horse's face. Loose ring bit which are too narrow can nip the horse's lips because the cheek slides through the hole in the mouthpiece and the lips can be pulled into the gap. Please take care to get the sizing right, as we cannot take back used horse bits.
How to correctly adjust the height of your new bit. It is best to do most of the adjustment before putting the bridle on the horse so, put the bit onto the bridle then hold it up to the side of the horse's face. Then put the top of the headpiece level with the top of the horse's head (poll) and the mouthpiece of the bit level with the corner of the mouth. Next adjust the bridle to fit. The cheekpieces should be adjusted, so that the bit lies in the correct position in the horse's mouth, i.e. leaving a little wrinkle at each corner of the mouth. Do not fit the bit to high, so that the horse appears to be grinning. Do not fit the bit too low, so that the bit hits the horse's teeth.
